Let's Talk about Engineering Content
There are several sides to "engineering content."
It is about bringing the discipline of engineering to bear on what we call "content."
It is about the content that is an integral part of engineered products and processes.
It is also about the content of engineering, what we use to ground and guide the engineering process itself.
All of these point towards the fact that almost everything in the modern world is, or should be, engineered - consciously designed to be effective, sustainable, resilient and useable.
CONTENT IS AN EXPRESSION OF ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE
The content we are interested in is the content that people need to work on together to produce. It is through that collaboration that it becomes an organizational asset. It becomes what the organization "says."
This is why content is hard. But this is why content is valuable.
Engineering Content is Important
What makes it important is the fact that content, if it is grounded and authentic, is the digital expression of what an organization has learned - its knowledge. If content is to live up to its name, and to its potential, then it must flow - between people, applications, and organizations. And when it does flow, it can also reach machines and provide them with exactly what they need to be effective - clear direction & accurate information.
